An insectoid species that lives nomadically. Their larger ships act as large cities and serve as the main spaces for raising young, although many elders and a few adults live and work on these ships as well. Smaller ships act as homes to small groups of adult Helssi, as well as trade ships and transport between colony ships.
Helssi ships are as close to self-sufficient as they can make them, but the biospheres they contain still require some amount of trade to stay in balance, especially the smallest of ships. Helssi tend to assist each other readily, but are much less trusting of other species. However, some Helssi ships do not trade even with others of their kind but instead pirate from any ships that come within the space they consider their territory.
Plants on their original world evolved to be purple, almost exactly reverse to Bode's. Though humans have only been in the interstellar community for a few generations at this point, The Helssi find Bodean plants to be interesting as both curiousities and as a compliment to their own. Some of the richer Helssi have even started to collect Bodean plants when they're able to get their hands on them.
Despite, or maybe because of their scattered nature, their alchemical and communication technology are advanced to the point they rival the Xirug Ssebta. This includes Helssi having their own section of the interstellar communications network that the Xirug cannot control, and can rarely break into. It isn't known if they have any kinds of advanced weapons. Considering the difficulty they would have getting them into other species' systems undetected, and the fact they have not been employed on Xirug ships coming close to the nebula, it is assumed that if they do not, or they are only effective at close range. However, standard weaponry has been seen on both colony ships for defense, and on smaller pirate vessels to disable their targets.
